The palm oil producers thank the EU
ambassador Mr. Michalis Rokas for leading
uncompromising process towards a change
of the EU’s policy on the palm oil industry
and towards better economy in Malaysia
Michalis Rokas, EU ambassador to Malaysia
Michalis Rokas
We are a group of farmers, suppliers and manufactures from the palm oil industry in Malaysia. Recently, some organizations look to damage our industry and to decrease the usage of palm oil as a biofuel, although it has many benefits.
We’ve established “palmoilmalaysia.org” in purpose to correct the wrong conceptions and to save our jobs for better economy in Malaysia.
We want to express our appreciation to the EU ambassador to Malaysia, Michalis Rokas, for his constant effort to correct the misconceptions about the palm oil industry. Although he faces many difficulties, Rokas doesn’t give up on what’s best for the economy of Malaysia.
Malaysia is the world’s second-largest producer of palm oil after Indonesia. The palm oil industry in Malaysia produces about 1.5 million tons a month and maintains approximately 500,000 workers. It is safe to say the palm oil industry is vital for the economy of Malaysia.
As a biofuel for Aviation:
There are number of advantages in using palm oil for the production of biofuel, as it is a
much ‘greener’ oil than fossil oil. The combustion of palm oil biofuel doesn’t increase the level of carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere. Furthermore, since carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas responsible for global warming, the world benefits by burning of biofuel instead of fossil oil. Biofuels are the only path proven feasible at the moment to build a sustainable future for
the aviation industry and the path to meet the industry’s climate and de-carbonization
targets.
In 2019, the EU made a decision to phase out the use of palm oil as transport fuel by 2030 while taking the palm oil out of the EU’s renewable energy program by 2021.
